School Uniform
At South Green Junior School, we take pride in our pupils being smart, well presented and ready to learn. It is our school policy that all children wear school uniform when attending school, or when participating in school-organised events outside normal school hours. We ask children to take pride in their personal appearance, as this indicates that they also take pride in being part of their school community.
Our uniform is designed to be accessible to all, smart but comfortable and offer value for money. Much of the school uniform listed in this policy is available at very competitive prices at local shops, supermarkets or online. Whilst many of our uniform items can be bought from our suppliers with the school logo, we only request that the purple sweatshirt or cardigan carry the school logo. The logo on all other items is optional.
We believe that a uniform:
- Promotes a sense of pride in our school.
- Helps to create a sense of identity, community and belonging.
- Supports the school’s commitment to inclusion.
- Prevents pupils from wearing ‘fashion clothes’ that could be distracting in class.
- Is practical, smart, and designed with health and safety in mind.
- Is considered to be good value for money.
- Sets an appropriate tone for learning.
Affordable Uniform
We appreciate that school uniform can be costly, particularly in families with siblings. It is for this reason that we have the following in place:
Emergency Fund
We have a small, emergency fund that we may be able to use to support families in exceptional circumstances. Please speak to the School Business Manager or Headteacher in the strictest of confidence if you need support in ensuring your child wears the correct uniform.
Second hand Uniform Sales
Our PTA, The Friends of South Green Schools (FOSGS) hold second-hand uniform sales in at least once a term. We cannot guarantee what items and sizes we have available at any one time. If you have items you wish to donate, we will gladly accept them provided they are washed and in a condition suitable for re-sale. They should be handed in to the main school reception.
Lost Property
We have a lost property box in the Main Reception. Parents are welcome to come and check for lost items at the beginning or end of the school day. This builds up quickly and much lost property is never collected. When the lost property builds up to an unacceptable level, parents will be given a two week window of opportunity to come and look for any items that they think belong to their child.
After two weeks have passed, any items not collected – usually those with no or unclear name labels – will either be made available to sell at second-hand uniform sales or recycled in other ways. Labelling your child’s uniform clearly and securely will help items get returned to their rightful owner. Items with no name label are difficult to return.

Purchasing Uniform
Many of our uniform items can be purchased widely online or in local high street stores or supermarkets at competitive prices. For those few items with a branded school logo, these can be purchased directly from . They also sell some non-branded items, such as trousers, shoes, skirts and hair accessories. The tables in Appendix 1 of our policy give further detail.
